Standard fractional lasers penetrate deeper into the skin which means longer downtime (more redness, more swelling, longer healing time) and a higher risk of complications. Standard fractional lasers also have lower peak powers and cause more thermal damage to surrounding skin which increases the possible side effects.

CoolPeel^TM uses hundreds of tiny pillars of laser energy to penetrate the skin. The laser delivers high power and low energy in ultra-short pulses to the skin. This creates controlled injury to the epidermis (top layer of the skin) and superficial dermis (second layer of the skin) with less heat build-up in the surrounding skin. This means there is minimal thermal (heat) damage to surrounding skin.

When the epidermis is treated with this laser, natural chemicals are released from the skin to ‘repair’ the ‘site of injury’. In the process of healing, type III collagen, elastin, mucin and other skin proteins are produced resulting in clearer, brighter, firmer skin.

This laser’s innovative “spray” emission produces a natural appearance to the skin immediately after treatment without the straight lines associated with traditional fractional resurfacing.

Traditional CO2 lasers are not usually safe for skin of colour (pigmented skin types), however CoolPeel^TM is suitable for ALL skin types.  This means almost everyone is suitable for treatment, although some people with certain medical conditions may not be able to have this treatment. This will be assessed by our dermatologists at your initial consultation.

This propriety technology results in a fast recovery with minimal to no downtime. The skin is a little red for 24 hours after the treatment, but makeup can be worn the next day.

Those with skin of colour can appear to be a little bit tanned after the treatment, but this subtle darkening only lasts for about 72 hours.

Skin infection after treatment is rare provided you follow post procedure instructions. In some cases, a prescription for antibiotics may be needed. This will be discussed with you at your initial appointment.

3-4 sessions are generally needed for the best results. Sessions should be spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.
